Flying L's Class of '59

Ft. Lauderdale High School, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

Great memories from Renee' Carr Koenig!

Who can believe that we are so old as to have our 50th high school reunion?
Sometimes I do wonder who the old lady is in the mirror and look in horror
at the things that have grown and fallen away on my body. So, we laugh and
I am so thankful to be alive, in good health having been married for 48 years.
We live in the midst of the Archie Carr Turtle Preservation area in Melbourne
Beach. I have never lost my love of the sea and during the 25 years when we
lived in Chicago we made it a practice to get back "home" to the ocean when-
ever possible. Lake Michigan just didn't do it. We have also lived in
Pittsburgh, Provo, Utah, Denver and Canyon City, Colorado.

We returned to Florida in 1993 when Walt retired. At various times our children
have lived here in Melbourne Beach as well. As Walt says, we moved chasing the
grandchildren.

I was a full time mom until our youngest was 12 and then I worked part time for
20 years as a travel agent. After 3 years of study I became a Certified Travel
Consultant. Walt was in international marketing and with wonderful travel bene-
fits we have had a grand time free lance traveling around the globe. To no longer
enjoy the benefits of our past positions is difficult. We were used to flying
"upfront". Coach is not pleasant.

In my dotage I am the Director of the St. Francis Center for Restoration in
Melbourne Beach. This is a non-profit spiritual renewal center. SFCR is under
the auspices of the Episcopal Church but we are ecumenical in our ministry.
I am a certified spiritual director and supervisor of directors in training.

I love gardening and made it through the Master Gardener program in the state
of Florida. For fun I like the beach, swimming, nature, decorating, faux painting,
gardening and spending time with my family (three married children & spouses and
6 grandchildren (ages 5 to 18)). I also enjoy travel with my husband, particularly
by rail, through wine country, stopping at churches, cathedrals and holy places.
