Flying L's Class of '59

Ft. Lauderdale High School, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

Great memories from Dave ["danny"] Norris!!
==========================================

As for me: I attended South Side Elementary School starting in the second half
of first grade after my family moved to Ft. Lauderdale in February 1948. I then
attended Naval Air Junior High along with my neighbor friends, Fred Stresau,
George LeMieux, Dave Buffington, Karen Stevens, Pat Booth, Harriat Bassett and
I'm sure a few more from the SE area that I have forgotten. Then my parents
decided to send me as a day-student to Pine Crest so that I might have a better
chance of graduating in 1959 which was becoming a concern after my good times at
Naval Air and waaaayyyy too much fun on those bus rides, etc., etc.

Somehow I survived high school, graduated and attended FSU my first year, then
night school in September 1960 before dodging the draft and enlisting in the USN
for four years. After that tour, I returned to college studies for a year and a
half before becoming an employee of IBM out here in San Jose, California. I
continued my studies while employed at IBM and retired thirty-six years later
back in the summer of 2002.

Between 1971 and 1978 I was a one-forth owner of two San Jose based flight
schools with dealerships for both Cessna and single-engine Rockwell aircraft,
retiring from flying around 1982. Complements of "retraining assistance" money
upon my IBM retirement, I went sailing and earned both a USCG Master license and
an ASA (American Sailing Association) Instructor certification. Retirement has
been enjoyable. Three children; two daughters and one son in between. Six
grandchildren with the oldest two boy/girl twins at age eight and the youngest
girl now six-months all living within seventy-five miles of our home in Los Gatos,
California.

Most likely, I will not be able to attend the FLHS Reunion in June. Our family
will be on an already planned vacation out of California and not in the SE
direction. The invitation from both Pat Booth-Wilson and Harriat Bassett-Smith
was very much appreciated as a close neighbor. We all had many weekend water
skiing and party memories.

V/R,

Dave ["danny"] Norris
